Paying the Bills

We've tried out a few affiliate programs over the years - from Google AdSense to AdJug to Amazon and others. We've also applied to work with some of the big advertising networks - such as DoubleClick and TribalFusion. Unfortunately, those didn't work out.

Today we began running advertisements provided through Linkshare. Some artists and users may feel that running ads of any kind on our site detracts from the look and elegance of our publication. Although I share some of these concerns, we are experiencing the classic business quandary - if we are to grow we must bring in revenue. The more we have grown over the last couple of years, the more expensive our operating costs have become. Further, with more resources, we will have greater capabilities to provide services that better serve our community. For most people, this is not new information, so I will not linger on the subject.

We are trying to be selective about the advertisements we choose and include as many as possible that will be of use to our users. Thus, we have included primarily music, music equipment and art / office supplies as well electronics along with a few environmental organizations. Hopefully, some of the worst offenders of your browsing sensibilities will not appear here. Please feel free to comment regarding any ads you think we should pull.
