Butterflies and their Color Palettes

If you're not familiar with COLOURlovers (which I wasn't before my friend J.J. linked me to it), you must do so immediately. As you might guess it is a web site devoted strictly to colour (or color, depending upon your orientation to the Atlantic Ocean). There are places on the site to explore, find, and discuss color with other lovers of colour.

But what caught my eye was a blog entry entitled Colorful Beauty in Nature: Butterflies in which they've collected images of 18 butterflies alongside of which they display (and make available for download) their color pallettes. Brilliant.

Color in Motion

An oldy but worth mentioning - Claudia Cortes won I.D.'s Best of Category award for her Color in Motion interactive web site.

A Flash animation about the symbolism of color, Color in Motion tells stories about six color avatars and what each symbolizes. The stories are told via a movie for each color, and there are also interesting interactive possibilities for the user. It's a refreshing look at how different colors are perceived, and it's just plain fun.
